Match Report – Round 21

The First Grade match against Sydenham Park has been rescheduled to tomorrow evening (that's Tuesday 7 Sept) at Paisley Park (Cnr Ross Rd/Mills St, Altona), kick off 7.30pm sharp

Match Report – Round 20

Moreland City Seniors 1 - 0 Altona East Phoenix
Moreland City Reserves 3 - 0 Altona East Phoenix Reserves

Kam Simsek scored his 12th goal of the season as Moreland Seniors grafted out a hard fought 1-0 win over Altona East Phoenix to keep their 8-game unbeaten streak alive.

Moreland managed to create the best opportunities in the first half without really playing their best football but came out in the second half to dominate the match. Paul Dickie had a header rebound off the post before Kam Simsek headed home the only goal of the match following a great corner from his brother, Ernie Simsek.

Stuart Hoskins had a fantastic game in midfield winning every header while Sam Grasso was another player to impress with his hard work up and down the right wing.

Moreland Reserves had a convincing 3-0 win with two goals to Gianfranco Saladino and one to Mick Cronin.

All goals were scored in the first half with Cronin grabbing the first with a great header of a James Johnston cross while Saladino scored the next two, volleying home a Nathan Chapman cross for his first and slotting home a through-ball from Ben Casagrande for his second.

This match had been much anticipated as United had beaten City 3:1 in their first encounter of the season.

The day was very cold and rain welcomed the team upon their arrival to Moomba Park Reserve, adding the strong wind and the day made it difficult for attractive football.

Coach De Guara introduced Louis into central defence and his brother Joe as an attacking central midfielder. The move paid off as both boys were to play well on the day. ... more
