Moreland City have thrown themselves back into the title race with some hard fought back-to-back victories over Melbourne University and North Sunshine.
Moreland's 1-0 win over Melbourne University on June 13 stopped the rot after three successive losses, although it was far from convincing. Boss man scored the all-important winner in the 20th minute with a tap-in from a near-post flick on.
Boss man was on the score sheet again versus North Sunshine, heading home a Ernie Simsek corner to give Moreland a 1-0 lead at half time. Luca Lucchesi doubled the lead in the second half with a diving header at the back post following some more good work from Simsek down the right wing.
Moreland continued to create a a number of legitimate chances but allowed North Sunshine back in the match in the 65th minute as Besnik Kutleshi rose high to head home a corner and peg back a goal. However Moreland held tight to secure the three points and propel them back into the Championship mix.
Moreland Reserves continued their near-faultless start to the season (the only loss coming in Round 2) scoring their 8th and 9th successive victories, although they were made to earn it against Melbourne University after falling behind to a early goal before finishing the stronger side to win 2-1. Tiger scored the winner with his new boots!
The match against North Sunshine was a fair bit easier with the Eagles only managing to start the match with nine men. A few injuries quickly reduced the away team to only six men causing the match to be abandon.
Next week versus Banyule shapes as a crucial round for both sides. The Banyule Seniors are currently sitting top of the ladder and represent a tough challenge while the Banyule Reserves have only lost twice this year - one of them being versus Moreland in the opening round of the season - and remain one of the few teams who can challenge Moreland for the flag.

Saturday, 11th October saw Moreland City Football Club gather at Vivaldi’s Restaurant for the annual presentation night. It was a great night with the following people being recognised for their outstanding contribution to the club - on and off the field - during Season 2008:
