Match Report – Round 22
Moreland City Seniors 2 - 1 North Sunshine Eagles Moreland City Reserves 2 - 3 North Sunshine Eagles Reserves
Moreland City has capped off an impressive season with a 2-1 victory over North Sunshine to secure promotion into the NW Second Division for 2010.
It was a tight contest with North Sunshine's desperation clearly evident as they needed a win to avoid relegation, but the best chances of the first half fell to Moreland's Steven Sacco who went close to scoring on three different occassions.
The breakthrough came early in the second half when Paul Bossio brought the ball down in the penalty box, before finding a way through the defense to slot home Moreland's first goal.
However the lead was short lived as the Eagles hit back five minutes later with a volley through a crowded penalty area from Durim Ajro.
The scene was set for a tense finish as both sets of supporters found their voice but Ernie Simsek's run from the halfway line, where he beat three defenders, and cutback to goal scorer Gabriel Sarpa Perez silenced the home crowd.
The final siren sent the Moreland faithful into raptures (and Div 2) and a rendition of 'Shake it up Baby' that could be heard all across North Sunshine.
It was a disappointing end to the season for the Reserves going down 3-2 to North Sunshine but they still sung the song to comemorate their Championship-winning season which was wrapped up over four weeks ago.
Marty Mclure scored his first goal of the season with a fine display of finishing (read one of the weirdest finishers ever: through on goal, stop, let defender get back in front of goal, beat him again and roll ball past keeper without actually hitting back of the net). Quality goal and a quality celebration as Mclure ran to the sideline to share the goal with all his fans.
Milli scored the second for Moreland as predictions of 6-0 gathered momentum from the sidelines, but North Sunshine came back with some gritty football to steal the three points.
Douglas the humble Crab and Kate the Lobster Princess were madly, deeply and passionately in Love.
For months they enjoyed an idyllic relationship until one day Kate scuttled over to Douglas in tears.
We can't see each other any more ..." she sobbed.
"Why ?" gasped Douglas ..
"Daddy says that crabs are too common," she wailed. "He claims you are a mere crab; a poor one at that and crabs are the lowest class of crustacean and that no daughter of his will marry someone who can only walk sideways."
Douglas was shattered, and scuttled sideways into the darkness to drink himself into a filthy state of aquatic oblivion.
That night, the great Lobster ball was taking place. Lobsters came from far and wide, dancing and merry making, but the lobster Princess refused to join in, choosing instead to sit by her father's side, inconsolable.
Suddenly the doors burst open, and Douglas the crab strode in. The Lobsters all stopped their dancing, the Princess gasped and the King Lobster rose from his throne.
Slowly, painstakingly, Douglas the crab made his way across the floor .....and all could see that he was walking, not sideways .... but FORWARDS...
Yes FORWARDS ! One claw after another !!!
Step by step he made his approach towards the throne, until he looked the King lobster in the eye.
